5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but a few things you should know..., December 30, 2007

I've had the SDZ-5 for about nine months now, making 2-5 batches a week. I agree with all the favorable assessments posted here about ease of use and quality of contruction, but I do have some tips for its use. Here are my top 5:

First, my family and I found we didn't like plain "undoctored" soymilk, at all. You'll find that there are plenty of recipes on the internet for making soymilk that approximates what you buy in the store. We add 2T uncooked oatmeal to the soybeans in the machine before cooking. After cooking, we add 2 T sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1 T vanilla to the finished product. Very tasty!

The end product still won't taste exactly like the brand of soymilk that you're currently drinking, but give it a couple of weeks and it'll probably become your new favorite. If you're like us, you may remember that it took you a while to get used to soymilk when you switched from dairy. Same thing here.

Second, we filter the cooked soymilk/oats... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars RICE MILK? Try Soyquick model 930P, October 17, 2007
Dana "Dana" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
PLEASE SEE MY UPDATED REVIEW BELOW

I decided to purchase this soymilk maker for rice milk, despite a previous customer review about the rice milk boiling over. Mine didn't boil over, but the milk that resulted was so awful I had to throw it out. The mess was UNBELIEVABLE - I spent longer to clean up the machine than the machine took to make the milk. It was a sticky, gooey disaster. I managed to clean up the machine thoroughly and packaged it right back up. The customer service was great, though.

22 August 2008

The Soyquick company called me last week to let me know that a newer version of the Soyquick machine has just come out. It is model 930P. I was VERY impressed with the difference! The rice milk came out great with a smooth, even consistency. Rather than having the machine run the liquid through the metal strainer, I did that part myself with the strainer that is provided. The machine parts are SO much easier to clean up- took me less than a... Read more

For some reason my machine decided one day to not work. Period! I called the customer service number, went through the test check no luck. Since I just purchased it 2 months ago and had the SDZ5 they are replacing it! The service was pleasant and courteous even with my phone out of whack and disconnecting twice while we were on the line. I love my machine and the service is wonderful!

This review is from: Soymilk Maker - SoyQuick Automatic Soy Milk Maker SDZ-4
February 17 2006
I did some research online and read people's review then decided to buy this soy milk machine. I know all the time that soy is very good to people's health especially for women so I had great expectation that this thing would work out. I ordered online from their own website and got it after 1 week. It was much bigger that I had imagined. Back in China, my mom used to use a handy soymaker. Anyway, I used it 3 times and it was good. Just that the soymilk didn't taste as fully cooked. Also washing the machine is a bit complicated since the head (where the electric parts are)is undetachable from the grinding part. So you need to hold the heavy head when washing the grinding part. You need to be very careful not to splash water onto the head. It's a bit tricky.

At the 4th usage, it only heated up without grinding at all so we pretty much harvest whole boiled beans. I called the company to fix it but they said I have to pay the mailing. Even... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use/good results, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Soymilk Maker - SoyQuick Automatic Soy Milk Maker SDZ-4
I have made many, many batches of soy milk with this machine and had no problems. I have made tofu as well with excellent results. It has more than paid already because we drink a good amount of soy milk. The milk is not quite the same as "silk" because I don't sweeten mine at all, but I have gotten used to it. The machine comes with suggestions for adding sweeteners and other flavors as well.

urban hermit (IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soymilk Maker - SoyQuick Automatic Soy Milk Maker SDZ-4
I use this at least 4x per week and it makes consistently great soymilk with ease. Not too hard to clean, and mine came with a tofu press, tofu coagulator, sample soybeans and instructions. It's heavy, durable and looks like it will stand up to hard use over a period of years.

If "The Complete Idiot's Guide" sounds frivolous to you, keep reading. My granddaughter at the ripe old age of 5 has a severe lactose intolerance. She also has a mom and grandmother who are both excellent cooks. The cooks have given this book nothing but rave reviews. They both use the book so much that I bought them each a copy. If you are looking for just one cook book to truly protect someone with a lactose problem and at the same time provide an amazingly complete array of delicious and attractive recipes (that are great for the whole family, not just the allergic person), I'd say this is the one. We have a library of cook books that fills one wall of shelves. About a dozen books of those books are about lactose intolerance and food allergies, but this one by far gets the most use.

To be honest, I was disappointed that so many of the recipes include soy creamer. I try to stay away from soy products as much as possible for health reasons. I know of no subsitute for this product so I feel that I can't use any of the recipes that include it as an ingredient. If you tolerate soy products though, I believe you will enjoy it.
